Uganda Wins ILT20 Continent Cup, Rwanda Finishes Third

Uganda’s national cricket team emerged victorious in the ILT20 Continent Cup, which took place in Kigali over the past week, with Rwanda finishing in third place.

The tournament was part of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) monthly ranking system and featured four teams: Uganda, Nigeria, Botswana, and Rwanda.

In the final match, Uganda defeated Nigeria by six wickets. Nigeria won the toss and chose to bat first, aiming to set a high score. After 17 overs and three balls, Uganda had successfully dismissed all of Nigeria’s players, while Nigeria had scored just 89 runs.

In the second half of the match, Uganda showed its dominance, easily surpassing Nigeria’s score of 89 within 17 overs and two balls. By that time, Uganda had scored 90 runs with six wickets still in hand.

Key players like Riazat Ali Shah and Henry Senyondo played crucial roles in Uganda’s victory, helping them maintain an unbeaten record throughout the tournament, winning all 10 matches they played. Uganda had also won the tournament in the previous year in Nairobi, where they defeated Kenya in the final.

Riazat Ali Shah was named the tournament’s best player, following his outstanding performance at the international Gahanga Cricket Ground.

For Rwanda, despite a tough competition, the team secured three victories out of the nine matches they played, finishing third with six points, while Botswana ended in fourth place.
