Rwanda and Ethiopia Strengthen Police Partnership to Foster Peace and Progress

On Monday, December 16, 2024, Rwanda’s Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, wrapped up a successful visit to Ethiopia, where he and Ethiopian officials signed a key agreement to strengthen cooperation between their two police forces.

The new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focuses on enhancing peace, security, and development in both countries, while addressing security challenges and building the capacity of both police institutions.

The MoU was signed by CG Namuhoranye and his Ethiopian counterpart, CG Demelash Gebre Michael Weldeyes, in a significant move to further deepen the bond between the Rwanda National Police and the Ethiopian Federal Police.

This partnership builds on a long-standing and positive relationship between the two forces. CG Namuhoranye’s visit follows a meeting in September 2024 with Ethiopia’s Deputy Police Chief, DCG Workneh Dagne Nebiyou, where they discussed ways to strengthen their collaboration.

Beyond policing, Rwanda and Ethiopia have been expanding their partnership in a variety of sectors this year. They have signed agreements to work together in areas such as politics, trade, sports, disaster management, and investment. Additionally, both countries are collaborating closely in agriculture, education, and air travel, with RwandAir and Ethiopian Airlines offering joint services to boost regional connectivity.

This new agreement is a symbol of the continued friendship and shared commitment between Rwanda and Ethiopia, as both nations work together for a safer and more prosperous future for their citizens.
